You are traveling and fear losing all your precious belongings ( your passport ? Your money? Your credit cards? maybe all of that ) to a clever pickpocket. In this case, you have to be smarter than the cleverest pickpocket.

What you need is a hidden pocket inside your pants so that even you have trouble retrieving your things from it.

Losing your passport or credit card is a DISASTER waiting to happen for you if you travel without the precaution of safeguarding them properly. What a better way to keep them safe than to hold them close to your body?

The hidden pockets (invisible from the outside) outlined here can be sewn to almost all your clothes. You can add them to jeans, pants and skirts. Better to sew them to all the clothes you are taking with you on your journey.

How to make a hidden pocket pouch

Step 1. Cut out the fabric piece for the secret pouch pocket

I am assuming that you will have your passport credit cards and maybe some money to keep in this pocket – for this, you need a pocket of the following dimensions

Width – 5.5″ ; Length – 7.5″

Cut out a cloth that is 17″ long and 6.5″ wide. You can cut it 10 inches by 6.5 inches for a smaller cash-only secret pocket.

cut out rectangular pieces of fabric and 2 webbing pieces

Fabric should preferably be a medium weight or heavy weight cotton or good quality nylon.

Step 2. Hem edges of the pocket piece

Hem both the edges  of the short sides ie 6.5″ side by turning under 1/4 inch twice.

Step 3.

Keep the fabric piece right side up in front of you.

Fold one short edge up (as in the picture below) 2.5 inches. Press in place.

fold one short edge down

Fold the other edge up and place it over the first edge. It should overlapfold the other edge up

Step 4. Sew the sides

Stitch the sides with a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

stitch the sides

Zig-zag the edges.

Bring the pocket right side out.

How to attach the secret pocket to the pants?

If you want to, you can sew velcro strips ( 1″) to the inside of the pockets so that they remain shut.

Step 5.

Now sew this pocket to the pants from the inside. Or add the webbing pieces to the back of the pocket (Sew them in place), sew buttons on the inside of your pants, attach the pocket pouch, and use it secretly.
You now have travel pants with hidden pockets accessible only to you (and maybe your better half). It is very easy to make this pocket, as you have seen. Better be safe than sorry Рclich̩d but so true.

Keep the velcro pieces on either side of the rectangular fabric as in the picture below.

Bring the velcro stitched side up, from the bottom edge.

Turn the other velcro edge down.

Overlap one velcro edge over the other.

Stitch in place, from either side, ending just till the velcro opening.

Fold the edges twice and stitch in place. Keep the webbing along the edges and sew this also there. Make small cuts as buttonholes.

You can now sew buttons on the inside of your pants and keep the pouch attached within the buttonholes on either side of your secret pocket.
